Top 5 Most Reliable Sources To Get Your Free Annual Credit Report

Online from Annualcreditreport.com – AnnualCreditReport.com is the only website authorized by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to give out free annual credit reports. The site allows you to order your free credit report from one central location. At the AnnualCreditReport.com website, you will be taken to the sites of each of the three agencies where you can order and instantly view your free credit report within minutes. Your transaction is secure because at each of these sites, you will be asked questions in order to verify that you are the rightful owner of the credit report you are requesting.

Online from MyFico.com – Your credit score is equally as important as your credit report. The Annual Credit Report Service will provide you your free annual credit report but not your credit score. You can, however, get both from MyFico. The majority of lenders prefer to use the classic Fico score when evaluating credit standing, and although the three credit bureaus sell different types of credit scores, the ones you will get from MyFico are the classic Fico scores.

Online from Equifax – The Score Power credit report that Equifax offers on its site was developed in partnership with the Fair Isaac company, and is based on the Fico credit score model. This and any other product it sells on its site is the classic Fico score. The other companies, Experian and TransUnion, sell products that were based on the Fico score but tweaked to add their own variables.

By phone from the Annual Credit Report Request Service – If you do not have internet access, calling the Annual Credit Report Request Service is the next best option. This toll-free number is operated by the three major credit agencies, authorized by the FTC, and is secure because anybody who requests a credit report is required to provide information to verify his/her identity. Requesting by phone will allow you to ask for your three free credit reports in just one call.

By mail from the Annual Credit Report Request Service – Requesting for your credit report by mail and filling in the form yourself allows you to ensure that the information you sent is accurate. This minimizes the chance that your information may be heard wrongly and therefore misinterpreted.

All of the above sources are good and credible but why I think the most trustworthy one is annualcreditreport.com. I've been using it for couple of years now. It's really good.
