Online:
1. Type annualcreditreport.com on your Internet browser.
2. Select your state from the dropdown box and click Request Report.
3. Fill in the online form with your name, date of birth, Social Security Number, and address.
4. On the box marked Enter Characters, type in the characters you see in the colored picture beside the box.
5. Select one or more of the three credit reporting agencies listed on the screen.
6. A new screen will appear, informing you that you will be transferred to the first website. On the next screen, you will be asked to provide details that only you will be able to answer.
7. You will see your free annual credit report on your screen and you will be able to print it.
8. When you are done, click the Return to AnnualCreditReport.com link to return to the AnnualCreditReport site.
9. Select another agency, and you will be taken to that company’s website. Do this for each agency you are requesting your credit report from.
By Phone:
1. Call 1-877-322-8228.
2. To verify your identity, the person at the other end of the line will ask you questions that only you would know the answer to.
3. Make your request.
4. Your reports will be sent to you within 15 days. Allow about 2-3 weeks for delivery time.
By Mail:
1. Download the Annual Credit Report Form from this site: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/requestformfinal.pdf
2. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Viewer to view and print the form. If you don’t have it on your computer, you can download it from this site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
3. Print out the form and fill in all the fields.
4. At the bottom of the form, shade the circle of the credit reporting agencies you would like to request your credit report from.
5. On the adjacent box, shade the circle if you would like your credit report to show only the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.
6. Mail the completed form to the Annual Credit Report Request Service at P.O. Box 105281 in Atlanta, Georgia 30348-5281
7. Your reports will be sent to you within 15 days. Allow about 2-3 weeks for delivery time.

Try to spread them out through the year so you can monitor your credit constantly. For instance don't get all of them in January. Get one in Jan and one in June and one on October. That's kind of free monitoring of your credit.

This helps a lot because we don't have to put much efforts to search for a company which provides it for free. But when it comes to getting credit report I would suggest to be careful and always be aware of the company or a person with whom you are dealing.
